I really like this picture because I feel like it’s a perfect depiction of my mindset from one second to the next. One second I feel up, and the very next minute I’m all like, YO WTF IS HAPPENING WITH MY LIFE. This is literally me everyday….just lost as hell. Someone recently told me that I appear as if I have it all together and I was thinking like, ummm, you have NO idea how much of a hot mess I am lol. Does anyone else ever feel like this?! It’s exhausting, to say the least.
Here’s the thing – life is hard. And figuring out your path in life is even harder – probably the hardest thing you’ll ever do. “What’s my purpose? What’s my passion? WHY AM I HERE, LORD?”…… are all questions you’ve probably asked yourself at some point. I can totally relate because these questions plague me daily. Like, why is it so hard to figure out?! *slams back against wall, slides down dramatically*
But what I’ve learned over the past couple of years is that, although it might be hard, and I might be lost, I feel pretty confident that I’m EXACTLY where I’m supposed to be. Not sure why I feel this way, but I just do. There’s a difference between being just flat out lost, and being lost on the RIGHT path. Idk about you, but I’d much rather be lost in the right direction than the wrong one. I once heard someone say, “don’t be so busy climbing the ladder of success that you fail to realize it’s against the wrong building”…..or something like that. That quote resonated with me soooo much, and ultimately, changed the course of my life.
Here are a few tell-tale signs that I think indicate you’re on the right path, even if you feel lost!
1 – You’re uncomfortable….all the time
Everything is soooo uncomfortable, right? Change is uncomfortable. Networking is uncomfortable. Putting yourself all the way out there is uncomfortable. But the fact of the matter is, in order to grow, you have to get pretty comfortable with being uncomfortable. There’s just no way around it!
2 – You have lots of ups and downs
If you’re anything like me, you probably feel like you’re on a never-ending rollercoaster…..like ALL the time. One minute you’re thinking to yourself like, “I AM SLAYING THIS.” And the next minute you’re like, “I AM TRASH, LIVING IN A TRASH WORLD.” Yea, sounds about right. But totally normal thought. You just have to be intentional about maintaining a positive outlook, especially when those negative thoughts creep in.
3 – You DGAF what people think
There’s no better feeling than giving no f*cks about what people think about you. Because at this point in your life, all you care about is being completely and utterly happy, regardless of what that looks like to anyone else. And that, my friends, is a beautiful place to be.
4 – You’re building relationships of value
Who has the time for relationships that don’t add any value to your life? Uhh, nobody. Don’t get me wrong – party friends, and friends of convenience, are real cute when you’re in your twenties. But when you’re trying to get your sh*t together, you’ll quickly realize every connection should be making you better, NOT holding you back.
5 – You have a new found appreciation of time
The older you get, the more you appreciate your time. Because let’s be clear – your time is worth EVERYTHING. And most importantly, time is money (this saying has never been more true). Therefore, you do not have it to waste!
6 – You realize the only competition is YOU
Yes! The only person you ever compete with is that person in the mirror. Each day, you strive to be better than you were the day before. It takes some time to realize everyone’s journey is different, and should NOT be compared.
7 – Your outlook on life has changed
All of a sudden, everything seems so clear. Well, maybe not everything. But for some reason, you’re starting to realize the most important things in life. It’s not money (although needed) or material things; it’s happiness. That’s the key, because happiness IS freedom!
I hope this helps someone who’s been feeling lost lately. Trust me, you are not alone!
