I hate the gym, y’all. Like, really hate the gym. First off, every time I step foot in a gym, I immediately feel as if I don’t know what I’m doing, no matter how many times I go. Secondly, I feel like I’m being watched, which makes me self conscious, so then I want to go home. And lastly, I just really hate the gym. Did I mention I HATE the gym? Okay, cool. So with all that being said, I realized I was in dire need of some home workouts!
I recently participated in a bootcamp by Brix Fitness (check out their fitness videos), and found out that I don’t really need a gym at all. You know why? Because my body IS a gym, okay?! Yasssss, you heard me right. Honestly, all you need is your body and a little bit of space, and believe it or not, you can get a full workout!
Below are a few ways you can workout at home!
Per Fitness Magazine, circuit training is a high intensity workout that can burn up to 30% more calories; it also offers more cardio benefits. So basically, it’s a series of strength and/or cardio exercises that you can do consecutively, and repeat two or three times with only a few seconds in between sets. You don’t have to use weights or any exercise equipment, just yo BAWDY, baby. This type of workout helps to burn fat fast and sculpt your muscle, simultaneously!
Working Out with Household Items
Check out Karlie Kloss here, straight up using your run-of-the-mill, household paper towel to work out. You can pretty much use anything around your house. Milk jugs for weights, the edge of chairs/couches for an arm workout, etc. Check out Anna Victoria (fitness star) on the Today Show, showing us how to use implement every day household items into our daily workouts!
Running Laps Around Your House
Yes, you can do something as simple as just running around your own damn house. Won’t He do it?! If you don’t have a treadmill or a track nearby, utilize what you DO have. It all works the same, and you can get a really good workout.
Using Your Stairs
Using the stairs is a quick and efficient way to get a full body workout without paying for a gym membership. Because listen, I’m all about saving those coins, okay?! According to Positive Health Wellness, utilizing the stairs at home, or even at work, is a great and challenging way to get your cardio on while getting the resistance of strength training. So ditch the elevator next time for a quick workout on the stairs. Your thighs will thank you later. #ThickThighsSaveLives
I can’t speak for you, but I absolutely LOVE dancing. If I’m being honest, this is the only way I can be tricked into working out, because it’s just so damn fun — not to mention, it makes me feel good! Try dancing around the house to your favorite song (preferably some Beyonce, #justsayin), and watch how quickly you’ll burn those calories! And if you’re lucky, maybe you’ll look as fierce as Yanis (see gif above).
*cues “I like the way he rocks his hips and waves &….” Ok, I digress.
Yesssss, cleaning can help you burn up to 150 calories and shed a few extra lbs! I mean let’s face it, you gotta clean up anyway, right? So you might as well knock out two birds with one stone. If you’re doing laundry, try lifting your basket and twisting your body from side-to-side for a quick oblique workout. You can also grab your vacuum, broom or swiffer, turn on some dope music, for a quick and efficient workout!
Now we have absolutely NO excuses! I hope this helps 🙂
